ENVIRONMENT CONCERN

Ypióca Agroindustrial has been pioneer in initiatives for the environment preservation. Since 1846, Ypióca always looked for to take advantage of the by-products coming of the production of Cachaça. For example, the vinhoto (by-product of the distillery and highly pollutant to rivers and lakes) is transformed in fertiliser and used in the ferti-irrigation of the sugar cane plantation; part of the bagasse of the sugar-cane (rejected from the extraction of the cane juice) is transformed in paper and cardboard in a factory of the Group, Pecém Agroindustrial Ltd., and later, used in the packing of the products of the company; another part is transformed in electric power and into vapor, thus doing the company self-contained in energy; finally the eye of the cane (foliage) is transformed in ration to feed the cattle, which will feed the employees of the group.

Ypióca was also pioneer in the creation, in 1995, of the first ecological reserve peculiar of Ceará, located in the municipal district of Aquiraz. Characterised by a typical vegetation remainder of the Atlantic forest, the Reserve "Lagoa da Encantada", of 40 hectares, still has rich fauna, composed of local species as preás, foxes, pebas, armadillos, raccoons, cassacos, tejos, hawks, tetéus, sabiás, rolinhas, cobra de viado and cobra cipó, among other species.

By all this work, Ypióca was favored in 1997 with the Prize "Jornalista Moraes Nó", instituted with the objective of exalting companies that have actions toward the environment preservation.
